MAATULLI SCHOOL
SCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN COMPETITION ENTRY
Helsinki, Finland | 2020
The new Maatulli school and kindergarten “Wings” is a compact yet architecturally interesting and sculptural building. Both ends of pitched roof volume have been pulled inwards to form a clear entrance plaza in surrounding city grid orientation. Long eaves creates a desired shelter both in summer and winter. Two large roof windows provides natural daylight to the heart of the building. Floor plans are designed to be as open as possible and provides great flexibility.
The frame of the building is CLT-elements while roof and elevations are clad in handmade tiles. Long elevations are protected by extended eaves and therefore clad with wooden panels. Chosen materials are ecological and requires low maintenance.
